Longview Estate - Over the years, the vineyard has had extensive plantings totalling 7 hectares of grapes, including; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Syrah, Chardonnay and Gerwurztraminer. Open Daily, the winery has also expanded dramatically over the last few years, and is now fully equipped using traditional winemaking techniques together with modern technology. Longview produces individual, handcrafted wines with intense fruit flavours.

Marsden Estate Ltd - Lying in the sun amidst the citrus- covered slopes of Northland is Marsden Estate, Kerikeri's award winning winery. The estate is name after Samuel Marsden, who introduced the grapevine to New Zealand with 100 plantings at Kerikeri in 1819. The plantings at Marsden are a little more recent, but both the wine and estate building have a timeless quality. Original cuisine, complimented by estate grown wines can be enjoyed in a relaxed courtyard atmosphere overlooking the lake and vines. Wine sales, tastings and tours are also available.

Okahu Estate - New Zealand’s most northern vineyard and winery. The winery is situated 3.5ks from Kaitaia on the road to Ahipara which is at the southern end of the Ninety Mile Beach. The first vines were established in 1984 by vineyard owner by Monty Knight, since then label has earned a reputation for consistent quality, wining numerous awards including two gold medals for their Chardonnay and one gold medal for Shiraz.

Artisan Wines Ltd - At ARTISAN we recognise that each wine growing region of New Zealand has its forte', and in some cases, its hidden secrets. Our aim is to offer you a selection of the classic wines of New Zealand through the concept of bottling wines from single estates. Each estate has been carefully selected as either a leading representative of the region and varieties grown, or for its unique characteristics.

Ascension Vineyard - In the winery our aim is to preserve the flavours of the vineyard. To achieve this we handle the grapes and wines very gently at all stages and interfere very little with the magical natural process that turns grapes into wine! Life is too short to drink boring wine, and our philosophy has evolved to craft small quantities of distinctive, terroir-driven wines from both traditional and very unusual varieties.

Brick Bay Wines - Our hand-picked fruit was gently whole-bunch pressed before undergoing a cool fermentation with selected yeasts in stainless steel tanks. A small proportion of the wine was aged in oak barrels to add a further layer of complexity, but generally the intensity of fruit flavours achieved in the vineyard carried the wine with minimal intervention. As we believe this variety benefits from being allowed to ‘sleep’ in the bottle, the release was delayed until 7 months after bottling.

Cable Bay Vineyards - The company has been developed by a small group of wine lovers who are passionate about New Zealand and its wines. Our goal is to produce a select range of high quality wines from grapes grown on Waiheke Island and in Marlborough: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and a Bordeaux-style blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec.

Coopers Creek Vineyard - Coopers Creek policy is to grow the various grape varieties where they perform best. This page highlights the principal growing regions along with grape varietals taken from vineyards in those regions whether from Company owned or contract grower sites.

Destiny Bay Vineyards - Nestled in a warm, wind sheltered valley, we craft premium Bordeaux style wines from hand selected bunches and gentle processing. Our 2004 Praemia promises to be a classic blend of uncompromising quality and flavor.

Fuller Vineyard - is a well established vineyard and function centre with a relaxed atmosphere to ensure you function is an event to remember. Both inddor and outdoor activities are available for any season. Our facilities are suitable for corporate functions, birthday parties, luncheons Christmas functions and weddings. Full bar facilities are available for your convenience and reasonable prices willensure a function that will not exceed your budget.

Goldwater Estate - Goldwater Estate was established by Kim and Jeanette Goldwater in 1978 when they pioneered winegrowing on Waiheke Island with the planting of the Island's first vinifera vineyard. The success of their wines is demonstrated by the fact that there are now more than thirty vineyards on Waiheke Island.

Kennedy Point Vineyard - A short ferry ride from downtown Auckland brings you to magical Waiheke Island. Kennedy Point Vineyard is located on the southwestern side of Waiheke Island, and focuses on growing and producing Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah wines that reflect the essence of this land.

Kerr Farm Vineyards - We market our wine to specialist wine outlets as well as some restaurants, as well as mail order and cellar door sales. As we are a small, boutique vineyard this situation allows us to know our customers personally and we feel this is very appropriate for a product such as wine. Most wine drinkers like to swap chat about wine and food. Visitors to our vineyard enjoy the opportunity to sit on the verandah and look out over the vines which have produced the very wines being tasted.

Kumeu River Wines - At Kumeu River Wines our winemaking philosophy is simple. We endeavour to grow grapes of the highest standard and then treat them with respect when we turn them into wine. In this way the potential quality is maximised, and we are able to produce wines that are truly representative of our land.

Mazuran's Vineyard - West Auckland has one of the oldest clusters of wineries in New Zealand and nestled in the surrounding hills is the sweet surprise of Mazuran's winery. The boutique winery specialises in fortified wines with outstanding success and their dark, almost opaque creamy-sweet old ports have become a speciality. Mazuran's wines have been consistently honoured with the highest of European wine awards and accolades since 1958, and they were the first New Zealand wine to be awarded a gold medal in Europe.

Montana Wines Ltd - Allied Domecq Wines NZ represents the culmination of many pioneering New Zealand wineries and brands joined together, including Montana, Stoneleigh, Church Road and Corbans Wines. Today, we are the number one selling New Zealand wine company in both the domestic and export markets. With a diverse grape resource spread throughout Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, North Canterbury and Marlborough, the company produces a matchless range of quality wines.

Morton Estate Wines - Morton Estate's vineyards are concentrated in Hawkes Bay on the East coast of the North Island, and Marlborough on the Northern tip of the South Island. Both of these regions are well recognised for their outstanding whites: Marlborough consistently producing the world's most awarded Sauvignon Blancs, and Hawkes Bay, best known for its Chardonnays which have consistently featured at the London International Wine Challenge for the last decade. Yet small pockets within both these regions are now producing equally outstanding reds, specifically Merlot ,Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir.

Mudbrick Vineyard - The first plantings at Mudbrick were in 1992 by Nick and Robyn Jones, who still own and operate the property today. Planted area is now on two distinctively different sites: the Mudbrick Vineyard at Church Bay and Shepherds Point Vineyard at Onetangi. Plantings currently include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Syrah and Chardonnay. Handpicking, hand plunging and gentle basket pressing reflect in the character of our wines. Our Chardonnay exhibits the vibrancy of dry hot Waiheke summers.

Odyssey Wines - Odyssey is committed to making approachable, good quality and well-priced wines under the Odyssey Brand. The Reserve wines are made only in great vintages and are marketed under the Odyssey Reserve label. These Reserve wines show exceptional character and finesse, and are destined to age well and to reward the connoisseur. Odyssey produces 8000 cases of wine per year and exports its wines to America, Thailand, Japan and the Pacific Islands.

Saratoga Estate Winery - Saratoga Estate Waiheke Island winery a New Zealand Vineyard is located in the heart of the Onetangi Valley, opposite the golf couse. Saratoga Estate Vineyard provides a venue to all people. Whether you are here to sample some of the regions finest renowned Bordeaux style reds, or to sit down over an extended lunch in the Waiheke sunshine whilst sipping away on our Chardonnay or Rose wines.

Te Awa Winery - Embracing the time proven traditions of the world’s great winemakers, we harvest and vinify the different parcels of our vineyard separately, which gives us small variations in flavour and texture and thus more options when it comes to blending. We aim for a synergistic effect, where the wine will be better than the sum of the individual parts. Even in our single variety wines we blend different components from different parts of the vineyard to achieve the most complete and balanced wine.

Te Whau Vineyard - With breathtaking 360° views, stunning architecture, exquisite food, and New Zealand's largest wine list, including its own 5-star wines, Te Whau Vineyard and Cafe is a truly unique wine lover's experience. Our Chardonnay is hand-harvested, and then whole-bunch pressed, cold-stabilised and fermented in new French oak. Lees stirring by hand adds complexity, and our aim is to produce a wine of elegance, subtlety and restrained varietal flavour, with gentle oak. Production is very small, and largely sold through our restaurant and wine-tasting room.

Waimarie Wines - Waimarie Wines is located in Waimauku, an area 15 minutes North west of Kumeu, in one of Auckland's premium grape growing districts. The vineyard is a north facing heat trap set to one side of a sheltered valley. This unique geography has created a special meso- climate which produces long, hot dry autumns with low rain fall resulting in an extended ripening period ideal for retaining the vibrant varietial flavours of the fruit which are sort .

    Waikato

Cooks Landing (2000) Ltd - Nestled in a picturesque valley with panoramic views overlooking the world renown vineyards of Te Kauwhata. Only a fifty minute drive, 70 km south from the Auckland city centre, and half way between Auckland and Hamilton. Well worth stopping in to sample our genuine kiwi hospitality, local wines, and fabulous coffee.

Mystery Creek Wines - Mystery Creek Wines was awared a Gold Medal in the 2001 Liquorland Top 100 for their first vintage "Mystery Creek Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2000", The same wine received a Silver Medal in the 2001 Royal Easter Show and a Bronze Medal in the 2001 Air New Zealand Wine Awards. The following year, "Mystery Creek Wines Reserve Chardonnay 2001" was awarded a Silver Medal in the 2002 Liquorland Top 100.

Rongopai Wines - Rongopai Wines, until now, have been the "Waikato's best kept secret". However, this is all about to change. The recent establishment of new distribution networks, both in New Zealand and overseas will see Rongopai realise even greater potential in extending the wine capabilities still further; showing New Zealand winemaking can be much more than simply producing Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

    Eastland

Millton Vineyard - In 1984 James and Annie Millton established their winery on the banks of the Te Arai River near Manutuke where the early settlers first planted grapevines in 1871. This region is situated on the East Coast of the North Island of New Zealand in the winegrowing region known as Gisborne. Recognition has been achieved by winning numerous gold and silver medals, and three trophies at National wine competitions. Internationally gold medals have been awarded and in 1993 a trophy at the International Organic Wine Fair held annually in Britain was given to their 1992 Gisborne Chardonnay Barrel Fermented.

Brunton Road Wines - Currently planted with Merlot, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer grapes, the development of a new block this spring will introduce Pinot Girs and Viognier into the portfolio. After 6 years of grapegrowing, Philip & Margot Searle along with their eldest son Richard and his wife Kirsten decided that they wanted to take their love of wine to a new level and thus the Brunton Road label was launched on the back of the fantastic 2004 vintage. The philosophy behind this label is to produce a small quantity of great single vineyard wine from each of the varietals currently planted on the vineyard.

    Hawkes Bay

Amor-Bendall Wines - This "beach house" is the site of the original winery and is nowused as an officefor the winery administration, small dispatchs and local wines sales.Fermentation of the Reserve Chardonnay in French & American barrique's remains in the "yellow shed" alongside the tennis court. The site of the main winery & laboratory. Here we make the wine in stainless steel tanks using the very latest and most appropriate techniques and practices. Alpha Domus - Our commitment is to produce world-class estate wines, true to varietal character, reflective of their unique terroir and which offer exceptional value. Alpha Domus’ first wines were released to the market in 1996 after the completion of Stage 1 of the on site winery. Since then the winery and cellars have been expanded to process and cellar premium wines entirely from our own vineyards.

Askerne Winery - Askerne is a single estate winery situated in the winegrowing region of Hawke's Bay, New Zealand . We are committed to producing elegant fine wines that reflect our unique site and our winemaking philosophy and passion. The Askerne vineyard and winery was developed by John and Kathryn Loughlin in 1993. Initially purchased as 28 acres of bare river terraces, the property has been expanded to 50 acres which are being progressively planted. We aspire to produce wines which complement food but are vibrant and exciting when standing alone.

Beach House Wines - The Levels Vineyard at Te Awanga with the sea breeze cooling the afternoon air, retaining maximum aroma in the white grape varieties, ripening above the gravels. The new Vineyard at Mere road where a thin layer of soil sits on free draining gravels combines with all the heat Hawkes Bay can give to grow unbeatable Red Varieties The Levels Vineyard by the sea - one of the top four Chardonnays in the country. The Track Merlot Cabernet 2002, from our first plantings from Chris and Jill's Gimblett Gravels, Mere Road vineyard have come to fruition winning an award in the Bragato Conference.. This year's vintage is in the bottles and barrels looking very promising.

Bridge Pa Vineyards - Bridge Pa Vineyards is wholly owned by Lisa and Stephen Daysh. Lisa is a registered valuer and has a background in property consultancy. In 1994 Stephen founded his own environmental managment consultancy business Environmental Managment Services Limited. EMS is a niche New Zealand based project and enviromental management company.

Castalia Wines - At Castalia, free draining soils and Hawke’s Bay’s sunny climate are combined with modern viticultural techniques to produce concentrated fruit from low yielding vines. Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are our selected varieties, chosen for their suitability to our unique microclimate. The grapes are hand-harvested and processed using contemporary wine-making techniques, integrated with traditional methods, enhancing the individual characteristics of each variety.

Clearview Estate Winery - Fifteen years down the track the wines, the vines and the restaurant are 'doing very nicely now - thank you very much!' The Reserve Chardonnay has achieved Super Classic Wine Status, and has taken Gold or 5 Stars in each vintage since 1992. Opened in 1991, the coastal vineyard restaurant rates highly, consistently nominated in the top four winery-restaurants in the country, receiving BEEF & LAMB awards since 1998 and long known as a vineyard winery dining institution for local and tourists alike.

Crab Farm Winery - The vineyard grows on a site of river metal silt and ex-marine muds. Before the 1931 earthquake, more than half of this area was under estuary tidal waters. This huge natural disaster raised Crab Farm by 9 feet. The opportunity to grow grapes on this site 50 years later was taken up by James and Hamish Jardine. Together we have concentrated on six varieties. Specialising each year in better understanding of the site, the climate, detail and producing excellent fruit driven memorable wines.

Eastern Institute of Technology Winery - The Food and Wine Centre of Innovation is a key component of a major regional initiative (MRI), funded by New Zealand Trade & Enterprise, EIT and local industry. The MRI is a partnership between EIT and Food Hawkes Bay established to improve the integration of the food production and processing business, education and research in Hawke´s Bay. The aim is to fully realise existing assets, take advantage of opportunities and grow the region´s food and beverage export capability.

Equinox Wines - The Vineyards: De Novo, Vignolini, Crownethorpe and Pipibank. Most of the vineyards are situated along the picturesque Tutaekuri river valley in Moteo, Hawkes Bay. The area has seen a lot of vineyard development in recent years due to its alluvial soils consisting of silt and sand. The free draining and low vigour properties of these soils are highly suitable for growing premium grapes.

Kemblefield Estate Winery - From our beginnings in July 1992, Kemblefield has grown and developed, turning a 200 hectare farm into the successful vineyard and winery it is today. Our wines are a superb combination of quality Hawke's Bay grapes and our skills as experienced winemakers. Our website offers comprehensive information about our wines, our vineyards, our people and our history as well as ongoing developments at the winery. Kingsley Estate - Organic methods were chosen in the beginning and the property became Hawke’s Bays first certified organic vineyard, with the 1997 vintage being Hawke’s Bays first certified organic wine. People who said it could not be done or that it would restrict quality made the additional organic ‘challenge’ even more important. As the years go by, I find great personal satisfaction in being able to consistently produce top quality wines using organic methods. Chemicals are not used in vineyards for the direct benefit of wine quality.

Lucknow Estate - We are a boutique winery producing premium New Zealand wine. Hawke's Bay Wine Country is more than wine, it is lifestyle, amazing food, great weather and scenery, not to mention wonderful people. Come for the weekend or longer, enjoy the escape that is rural Hawke's Bay. There are some wonderful places just minutes away from Lucknow Estate; and the cafe's and restaurants of Napier and Hastings are just down SH50.

Matariki Wines - Matariki's mission is to produce fruit driven wines of elegance and complexity, handcrafted from a tapestry of soils grown in harmony with nature. Matariki is a Hawkes Bay classic wine producer with their main vineyard on the stony soils of prestigious Gimblett Road owned by former New Zealand rugby representative John O'Connor and his wife Rosemary. Currently 45 hectares are planted in vines, including the Gimblett Road classics of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Syrah. Matariki have also the New Zealand icon Sauvignon Blanc. Other varieties include Chardonnay and Riesling, while small quantities of Pinot Noir have been planted on the more silty soils. The first release of this Pinot Noir was in November 2000.

Shepherd's Croft - is situated in the acclaimed wine region of Ngatarawa in Hawkes Bay and is owned and managed by Jeff Whittaker. The vineyard lies on the ancient Ngaruroro riverbed, covers 17 hectares and has been in operation since 1993. Grape varieties currently planted are Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. As well as the Shepherds Croft label, the vineyard also supplies premium grapes to the Nobilo and Palliser wine companies.

Unison Vineyard - Bruce & Anna-Barbara worked in Tuscany for many years prior to establishing their own estate in Hawke's Bay. They were one of the first to risk their entire livelihood in this area of "poor soil". After intensive research (of climate, soil etc.) and after evaluating and comparing the general growing conditions of other great winegrowing regions around the world where both had extensive experience, they decided to establish themselves in the as yet "undesignated" area of what today is known as the Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District in Hawke's Bay.

Zepelin Wines Amongst Hawke’s Bay wine connoisseurs, and particularly red wine drinkers, 1998 is lauded as a vintage of exceptional quality. 2004/2005 gave every indication of being of a similar class. A hot, dry summer made up for a cooler than normal late spring providing, in the end, near optimal growing conditions. However, unseasonal rains in early autumn put a slight dampener on our expectations. Subsequent dry weather has seen sugars rising towards desired levels and some noteworthy reds should be possible.

    Wairarapa

Alana Estate - New Zealand has garnered an international reputation for exceptional cool-climate wine, particularly for sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, riesling and pinot noir. In fact, in the case of sauvignon blanc, New Zealand is now recognised, along with the Loire Valley, as the benchmark producer of this wine varietal. New Zealand is also recognised as one of the few regions outside Burgundy to produce outstanding pinot noir. And all this achieved in the space of 25 years!

Ata Rangi - Ata Rangi now harvests fruit from around 85 acres, including Walnut Ridge vineyard. Of this total, 75% is either owned or is fully leased and managed by the company, allowing strict control of cropping levels and quality. The balance is from three contract growers (Max and Liz Stevens' Cambrae Vineyard, Ro and Lyle Griffiths' Lismore Vineyard - both a stone's throw away - and the Petrie family's block in East Taratahi, 20 minutes north of Martinborough.) Sites are all very similar; shallow silt-loam over deep, free-draining alluvial gravels and rainfall is very low at approx 700mm per annum. Borthwick Vineyard - After a century dedicated to the International meat trade, the founders Great Grandson, Paddy has established the Borthwick family vineyard. Leaving nature untouched in the vineyard and winery allows us to create a range of premium, finely crafted Pinot Noir, Merlot, Sangiovese, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling wine styles. All the wines are produced and bottled exclusively using grapes grown from the unique soils in our vineyard.

Claddagh Vineyard - Our unirrigated, hand-tended vineyard produces high quality Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Located on ancient alluvial river terrace made of up deep, free-draining gravel overlaid with gravely silt loam, Martinborough has low rainfall, hot summers and a long, dry autumn. It is the consistency of the region’s autumn that provides the right balance of warm days (creating ripeness) and cool nights (creating elegance) for producing top quality, boutique wines.

D R Wines - The name Dry River carries an historical significance as the name of one of the earliest Wairarapa sheep stations. In 1979 Neil and Dawn McCallum planted a vineyard a few kilometers from Dyerville in a very dry and free-draining area now called the 'Martinborough Terrace' and they took the name Dry River for the vineyard and wines in what was to become another chapter of Martinborough's farming history. Their dream was to produce individual, high quality regional wines which faithfully reflect the 'terroir', vintage and are suitable for cellaring

Escarpment Vineyard - Overlooking the vineyard are the Aorangi Ranges, the very hills made famous by Kupe the great Polynesian voyager who discovered New Zealand, according to Maori legend. Kupe left his three canoes, Nga Waka, on top of the range, giving rise to the now familiar landmark of the district, the three flat-topped hills on top of the range, which resemble unturned canoes. This warrior and his story provide the inspiration for the vineyard's distinctive brand and logo.

Gladstone Vineyard - There are 10 acres of vines on our home block at Gladstone, and a further 25 acres of vines at our Dakins Road block 3 kms north on the river terraces. Our focus is to make quality wine, which is sought after, both here and overseas. Close attention to detail in the vineyard and the winery by all our staff results in wine for the premium end of the market. Our principal varieties are Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon. Our newest wine is a Pinot Noir.

Johner Estate Vineyards - A passion for Pinot Noir...
... as great Pinot Noir lovers and winegrowers, we have one of the most famous winery estates in Germany well known by the circle of experts. When travelling the world, looking at the Pinot Noir we encountered New Zealand for the first time. The landscape felt quite familiar, but what even fascinated us more was the Pinot Noir. The "Cool Climate" conditions are perfekt and there's a booming spirit. After searching some time, we finally found some land, along the Ruamahanga River in the Wairarapa.

Kusuda Wines Ltd - was established in Martinborough in October 2001 without its own facilities or vineyard. Luckily, I was soon able to secure a lease contract for a small but well established vineyard in Martinborough. With the huge support of my friend Mr. Kai Schubert of Schubert Wines, I was able to start realizing my dream of making my very own wine from the vintage 2002.

Margrain Vineyard - Right in the heart of the Martinborough vineyard area Margrain Vineyard is dedicated to producing fine wines. From the outset, the company's aim has been to grow top quality grapes and produce wines of excellence. In pursuit of this goal no compromise has been made. Enjoy deluxe accommodation tastefully decorated, each with its own individual style.

Martinborough Vineyard Estates - Martinborough Vineyard has gathered World renown for its Pinot noir. A lesser-known story, however, has been the success of its other varieties. Over the past few years Martinborough Vineyard has won acclaim for its Chardonnay, Pinot gris, Sauvignon blanc, Riesling and Late Harvest Riesling. While the spotlight has been on Pinot noir, these other wines have been slowly gathering prominence and a strong following. The reception area at Martinborough Vineyard reflects the dedication to World class wines. It is in close proximity to the Winery and Barrel Room and offers a warm and intimate introduction to the Martinborough Vineyard passion ... great wine!

Matahiwi Estate - The low cropping levels and intensive hand-on practices at Matahiwi are on a par with those of ultra-premium wine producers throughout the world. Matahiwi aims for elegant wines with essential fruit purity. A key objective is to reflect the vineyards and the soils from which the grapes originate. The Matahiwi range displays cool climate intensity of fruit, balanced flavours and excellent length. The range bears testament to the fact that making good wine is all about doing many things well.

Oak House - Before the barn was refurbished, Chris used the winemaking facility at Muirlea Rise to produce his first wines in the 2002 vintage. Grapes were purchased from growers in the southern Wairarapa to make a Riesling, Rosè, and Pinto Noir. The wine is called ‘Rinato’ meaning ‘born again’, a reference to the rebirth of the Buring name made famous in Australia by Chris’ great-uncle, Leo Buring who produced a string of outstanding Rieslings (among other great wines) many years ago.

Tirohana Estate - Modelled on a traditional French farmhouse, Tirohana House is an elegant and self-contained substantial property located within the picturesque grounds of Tirohana Estate and can accommodate either 2 guests or up to 10 people. Tirohana Colonial House has recently received a prestigious 5 Star rating from the Qualmark Tourist Authority which outlines the high standard of accommodation on offer. Qualmark award a rating system and 5 stars signifies that according to the Qualmark assessment that the services and facilities are “exceptional. Amongst the best available in New Zealand.”

Vynfields Estate - Vynfields is a boutique organic/biodynamic vineyard, located 3 minutes from the Martinborough Village Square, which also offers self-contained accommodation. Vynfields’ owners John Bell and Kaye McAulay are passionate about producing premium Pinot Noir and Riesling wines, handcrafted using traditional methods. Recent awards include a Gold medal at the Royal Easter Wine Show for our 2003 Pinot Noir and a Gold medal (and Best wine in the Riesling class) at the Bragato Wine Awards for our 2004 Classic Riesling.

    Nelson

Anchorage Wines Vineyard - Established by the Drummond family, the first plantings of Anchorage Wines' grapes occurred in the spring of 2000. 20 hectares (49 acres) of vines, comprising Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir varieties were planted beside the mouth of the Motueka River. This river is famous for brown trout and irrigation; the lifeblood of the horticulture crops of the region. The land itself is a delicate balance of fertile soils and river stones absorbing the suns rays, delivering nutrients and warmth to nurture the vines.

Appleby Vintners - The "Home Block", situated in Pughs road, was established in 1990 and comprises some 4.5 hectares (11 acres) planted in equal proportions of Riesling, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. A second 4.0 hectare property in McShanes road, known as the "Bartlett Block", was established in 1994 and comprises additional plantings of the same white varieties together with Pinot Noir, Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc.

Blackenbrook Wines - The winemaking is driven by attention to detail, patience and a good portion of intuition – or simply put by PASSION. Like caretakers we gently guide the quality grapes through the vinification process, allowing them to develop into complex and distinctive wines. Come and share the taste of the famous Nelson sun, the vibrant colours and the beautiful Blackenbrook Vineyard!

Brightwater Vineyards - Settling in Nelson, they began growing grapes the following year, and produced their first wines under the Brightwater Vineyards label for the 1999 vintage. Today, they are proud to be recognised as one of Nelson's premiere boutique winemakers. The Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Merlot wines produced by the Neale's family-owned vineyard have since enjoyed huge success and received recognition from top wine writers around the world.

Glover's Vineyard - The six-hectare estate vineyard lies on a gentle, north facing slope. In low fertility clay threaded with decomposing rock, the Glovers have planted Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. At five tonnes per hectare, this is a low-cropping vineyard. Grapes are also bought from growers in Nelson. Glovers Annual output is very small - around 1000 cases. Since the first 1989 vintage, the bold, beefy, tannic estate-grown Pinot Noirs have attracted the most attention. Grapes from the hotter slope behind the winery yield a bold, strong- flavoured Back Block Pinot Noir with new oak influence and furry tannins that demand cellaring.

Holmes Brothers - From its inception, our Holmes family vineyard has been tended organically without the use of synthetic fertilisers, fungicides, herbicides or insecticides. It is the first vineyard in the South Island to have been developed organically and is one of a tiny band of fully certified organic vineyards in New Zealand. Our growing and winemaking process is certified by Bio-Gro New Zealand in compliance with stringent organic standards. To achieve these standards means that vines take longer to come into full production and results in lower yields than conventional vineyards. The Holmes family commitment to organic methods has created a unique terroir within a region renowned for high quality wine.

Kahurangi Estate - As well as producing grapes from its own vineyard Kahurangi also leases a further 30 acre vineyard, which it also manages. The vineyard is located 1km from Kauharangi Estate, on the northern side of the village of Upper Moutere. Plantings consist of Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. There is also a small planting of Monepulciano on the property. Five Oaks comes into full production by 2006 and should produce on average between 90 to 100 tonnes per vintage.

Neudorf Vineyards - Vineyard management is driven by the winemakers' desire for ripe flavours and concentrated fruit. A combination of high plant density (up to 5000 vines/hectare) and low production (down to one kilo per vine for Pinot Noir) helps achieve the quality of fruit to create long-lived, intense but elegant wines. At the cellar door Anette Drewery and Julian Woods conduct the tastings and keep in touch with our mail order people.

Waimea Estates (Nelson) - In 1993 we planted our first vineyard of two hectares, the Hill Vineyard. Our 27 hectare Annabrook Vineyard was developed in 1994, and in 1995 we established our 11 hectare Hunter Vineyard. Over the winter of 2000 a fourth eight hectare vineyard was planted, predominantly in Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. A fifth block was developed in 2001 in more Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot. We are currently planning another sixteen hectares, mainly in Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. We produce Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet, Pinot Noir, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris. Take a look in our Variety Profiles section for more information. Nelson boasts high sunshine hours and a cool climate, and that combined with quality viticultural management and skilled winemaking help produce an excellent array of quality wines. Woollaston Estates - 2005 has been particularly exciting with the first vintage crafted in our new Mahana winery and the first release of Pinot Noir from the Mahana vineyard. Built into the hillside over four different levels, our gravity-fed winery has more than meets the eye. As tall as a six storey building (18m from the top of the roof to the floor of the underground cellars) it is roofed with a garden of tussock and shrubs, and much of it is completely buried.

    Marlborough

Bladen - Bladen Estate situated in Marlborough, New Zealand, was established in 1989 and is owned and operated by Dave Macdonald and Christine Lowes. Bladen Estate has a reputation for its stunning Sauvignon Blanc and the sought after range of exciting single vineyard wines that have collected nearly 200 awards and trophies.

Cape Campbell Wines - The first vineyard planted by Murray and Daphne Brown was on the stoney soils of the Rapaura district in 1980. This area suited the cool climate variety of Sauvignon Blanc which launched Marlborough onto the world wine scene. These were the early days of grape growing in the region. This first vineyard was planted under contract to Corbans Wines, Murray and Daphne then progressed to making and marketing wine under their own label in 1992. The Cape Campbell Wine Company was developed in 2000 and is now sold successfully both in New Zealand and internationally.

Cellier Le Brun - For over 20 years, Cellier Le Brun have been dedicated to crafting the finest quality Methode Traditionnelle wines available in New Zealand. The adherence to traditional technique since the winery's inception has enabled Daniel Le Brun to become one of New Zealand's most respected Methode Traditionnelle wines, recognised for its superb distinctive style and character.

Clifford Bay Estate - Quietly growing on their vineyard in the lower Awatere River Valley of Marlborough are the sauvignon, chardonnay and riesling vines that have produced some wonderful grapes for the Clifford Bay Estate wines. The silty, stony, free draining land on the terraces above the river were chosen for the plantings. With its source high in the mountains, the Awatere provides an abundance of clean water for irrigation. This has proven ideal for the establishment of a quality vineyard.

Foxes Island Wines - Foxes Island Wines is a family owned wine company producing small volumes of premium Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the very heart of the renowned Marlborough, New Zealand winegrowing region. Owner and Winemaker John Belsham is a perfectionist and his wines reflect the passion with which he practices his trade. The philosophy behind Foxes Island Wines is one of quality and the pursuit of complexity in fine wine style. Consequently, each release is of very limited production.

Haythornthwaite Wines - With the exception of Pinot Gris, where only one clone, the old 'Mission' clone, has been specifically chosen, several clones have been planted to provide complexity of flavour in the finished wines. There are several clones of Gewürztraminer, including the new 'Alsace' clones, and three clones of Pinot Noir, the 'Ata Rangi' clone, Pommard, and 10/5. Future plantings will concentrate on the 'Ata Rangi' clone as it has proved to be the most successful on the vineyard, and is the main clone in the world famous Martinborough 'Ata Rangi' Pinot Noir.

Herzog Winery & Luxury Restaurant - Winemaking follows the traditional method of a non interventionist philosophy. The long and natural fermentation of the grape skins and juice form a wonderful bouquet. Ageing in new French oak barrels. No filtration. Great effort, personal commitment, passion, knowledge and the philosophy to never compromise quality is evident in his extraordinary wines.

Koru Wines - Our whole aim is to make exceptional Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir that we love, stuff the market driven trends. We then hope to find a few hundred other people in the world who also enjoy our style, but if we don't, then it must be good enough for us to want to drink it all! With these wines we have tried to create something truly unique, a celebration of tastes, life and art. In total, depending on the season, only about 950 cases of single vineyard wine are "hand made by us, all the way to the bottle".

Observing Wines - The Gifford Road Sauvignon Blanc is made from fruit from our own Rapaura vineyards and is a result of ideal growing conditions. This wine exhibits intensely varietal aromas of herbs and nettles. Showing good complexity on the palate this crisp wine lingers on to a balanced finish. A classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc from a superb vintage.

Sentinel Vineyard - Wine is à tèrrior, the winemaker's philosophy is one of minimal handling allowing the fruit to fully express the vineyard's own characteristics. These grapes are handpicked, whole bunches pressed to tank, cool fermentation to maximise varietal character. Displays intense gooseberry, grassy, passionfruit characters on the nose. Palate is rich in passionfruit, nettle, lime. Long flavoursome finish.

Villa Maria - Villa Maria's talented people have an unrelenting passion to produce quality wines. Realising that it takes more than just good winemaking to produce quality, a passion to succeed begins in the vineyard. Astute site selection by Villa Maria's vineyard experts, is followed by superior vineyard management and then complemented by expert winemaking. A strong focus on continually improving the vineyards is considered by Villa Maria to be an incredibly important factor in quality winemaking.

    Canterbury

Canterbury House Winery - is a New Zealand Estate vineyard and winery producing premium wines and sparkling wines in the cool climate viticultural area of Waipara, North Canterbury, 50 kilometers north of the city of Christchurch in the south island of New Zealand. The vineyard and winery have been designed to produce wines in a style that preserves the natural flavour, aroma and bouquet of the grapes.

French Farm Winery - Located in a valley providing natural shelter, French Farm and its 8 ha of vineyards have their own microclimate. This attracted the first French settlers to the area for wine making in the early 1800s. Since that time French Farm has been the first to continue the wine making traditions of the French and in 1989 vineyards were established in the French Farm Valley located on the western side of the Akaroa Harbour. This natural harbour was created by volcanic eruption, however the volcano has lain dormant for many thousands of years and nowadays provides a beautiful recreational harbour.

Morworth Estate Vineyard - The single vineyard site in Canterbury was first planted in 1993 with cool claimate varieties of Riesling Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. Recent intoduction of new clones (selections of varieties) offer some exciting new potential as these vines appear to be of higher quality for cool areas than some existing clones.

Alpine Pacific Wine Company Ltd - Mount Cass was one of first three commercial vineyards planted in the Waipara Valley in 1982. The Mount Cass Vineyard takes its name from the prominent landmark of Mt. Cass that rises to over 500 metres above sea level. Mt. Cass provides maximum protection from the Pacific Oceans easterly breezes, for the vineyards are tucked under the lee of this landmark. The 20-hectare vineyards are planted with Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Gris, and Pinotage

Muddy Water Fine Wines - Situated in the Waipara area of North Canterbury, New Zealand, Muddy Water is a direct translation from the Maori place name - wai (water) para (sediment, mud). Just as our name reflects the place, our wines reflect our vineyards. Our vineyards are situated on sunny slopes above the Waipara Valley in North Canterbury, on the South Island of New Zealand. Protected from cool sea breezes by a range of coastal hills, the Waipara area has a climate distinct from the rest of Canterbury.

Waipara Springs Wines - Waipara Springs is a boutique vineyard and winery located in the warm dry Waipara Valley north of Christchurch. The wines have all been produced on the property from our own vineyards and have been enjoyed both in New Zealand and internationally since the winery opened in 1990.     Central Otago

Akarua - Akarua Winery has rapidly developed a world-wide reputation for producing quality wines. Located in Central Otago, the world's southernmost winemaking region, Akarua was established in 1996 by long-time Otago icon Sir Clifford Skeggs, with first vintage three years later. The region is mountainous, rising to over 2,000 metres and the vines are planted amid spectacular alpine scenery.

Amisfield Wine Company - Producers of Central Otago Pinot Noir, aromatic whites and Methode Traditionelle. High altitude, cool climate, long summers, and clean soils allow Amisfield to produce some of the best Pinot Noirs and aromatic white wines in New Zealand. The superb Central Otago environment combined with the passion of our winemaking team is the secret behind our high quality wines.

Aurum Wines Ltd - Premium Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Riesling are grown on Aurum’s two vineyards. The 45th Parallel Vineyard (5½ ha. planted) situated on fluvial glacial terraces below the Pisa Range at Lowburn was planted in 1997 and 1998. Te Wairere Vineyard 2 km from Cromwell is two years old and will start producing in 2004. Planting will continue over the next three years.

Bald Hills Vineyard - Bald Hills Vineyard is of an unusual triangular shape of 11 hectares. Bordered by the Cairnmuir hills and the Kawarau River it has inspiring views to the Pisa Range, the flat-topped terraces above Lowburn and along the Clutha River Valley towards Hawea and Wanaka. A charming homestead and tasting room, surrounded by gardens and adjacent to a small olive grove sits squarely in the middle of the vineyard.

Black Ridge Winery - is one of the original Central Otago vineyards. It was first established in 1981 through the pioneering vision of Verdun Burgess & Sue Edwards. The vineyard setting is dramatic, carved from rugged outcrops of schist rock. Pockets of vines cling to the Central Otago hillside, in a vivid contrast to the barren rock of Central Otago. Grapes are handpicked and the wine is handcrafted to reflect the unique terroir and climate of the vineyard.

Carrick Wines - Eleven months in French Oak and eleven months in bottle before release have paid off, resulting in an elegant seamless wine drinking well now but with excellent structure that will cellar well. Bob Campbell writing in New Zealand Home and Entertaining cited it as his favourite 2003 Pinot from Central Otago, Michael Cooper described it as an aristocratic wine with deep ripe spicy flavours….showing excellent potential and awarding it five stars in his recent Buyers Guide to New Zealand Wines.

Chard Farm - Our recent expansion of the winery has been completed and we're pleased to report the underground barrel cellar and specialist Pinot Noir cuverie work very well. The barrel cellar uses the old world technique of sitting the barrels on bare earth pits that have been filled with gravel. This lets the cellar breath, but more importantly keeps the humidity high, thereby preventing a lot of wine evaporation aka "the angels share" and therefore loss of wine. This is particularly important in the low natural humidity climate of Central Otago. Our 400 barrel cellar could lose around 12 litres/barrel or 4,800 litres over a year!. We hope to reduce that figure to closer to 1,000 litres.

Domaine Jaquiery - The vineyard is eighteen kilometers from Lake Wanaka Township on State Highway 6 in the direction of Cromwell. (Thirty-six kilometers from Cromwell if traveling towards Wanaka.) We have no cellar door as yet, but please Join Our Newsletter list and we will keep you informed of developments.

Gibbston Valley Wines - Gibbston Valley Wines has earned an international reputation for Pinot Noir and other thriving grape varieties such as: Chardonnay, Pinot Gris Riesling, and Pinot Blanc. The team has won many prestigious awards and accolades for their efforts, including the 2000 Reserve Pinot Noir being named the Champion Pinot Noir of the World.

Hawkdun Rise - The first vineyardstay Bed & Breakfast in Central Otago! Hinton Estate Vineyard - Table-grapes were grown for decades in a glasshouse "vinery" from the 1930's onwards. An experimental plot of vines planted outside in the 1940's was abandoned - one of the reasons being the difficulties brought about by the, at the time, uncontrollable rabbit plague. Central Otago has a unique microclimate well suited to the growing of the notoriously complex Pinot Noir grape variety. Click on this link for further information about Central Otago. The Hintons planted more Pinot Noir along with Pinot Gris, Riesling, and Viogner in Spring 2003 and have 20ha planted in grapes.

Judge Rock - Our growing season starts in early October with bud burst in the first or second week and picking in early to mid April depending on the season. The rows of vines are angled to the north west to balance the sun light on both sides of the vines from veraison to picking. The vines are at 1.4m to 1.2m spacing with 2.5m row widths to accommodate the Massey Ferguson 35 red tractor. Vines are bud rubbed, shoot thinned, tucked up, grape thinned and shoulder trimmed and picked, all by hand. A labour of love!

Lamont Wines Ltd - Lamont’s commitment to quality has been totally focused, from the outset, on the vineyard. For this reason knowledge and expertise in the vineyard has been a priority. A blend of Burgundian clones have all combined to produce this attractive, single vineyard pinot noir. Aromatically, it expresses layers of dark cherries and caramel. Sweet fruits mingle on the palate. It is full bodied with good length and has intriguing leathery tannins imbued from aging in French oak barriques.

Mt Difficulty Wines - With our founding vineyards established in 1992, Mt Difficulty owns some of the oldest vineyards and is one of most respected wineries in the Central Otago region of New Zealand's rugged South Island. Situated in Bannockburn, a unique and rare area of extremes, Mt Difficulty has harnessed the once brutal terrain to produce premium wines at the forefront of Central Otago's wine production.

Mt Rosa Wines - In New Zealand, Central Otago’s Gibbston Valley has become synonymous with producing some the world’s most unique pinot noir. Located at the eastern end of this valley is Mt Rosa, a legendary merino sheep station and one of the largest wine producers in this dynamic region. Mt Rosa’s vineyards produce a range of wines including the region’s flagship, pinot noir. The label says it all, from a heritage of goldmining and sheep farming, comes Mt Rosa, a fresh new approach to fine wine.

Olssen's Garden Vineyard - Established in 1989, Olssens is the pioneer vineyard of Bannockburn and the Cromwell Basin. Owners John Olssen and Heather McPherson engaged a landscape architect to work with the viticultural specialists to plan the vineyard. Planning was followed by earthworks and the establishment of some 8,500 trees and shrubs and 6,000 bulbs. Spring in the vineyard is a sight to behold, but Autumn too has its own magic, offering to envelop visitors in a shimmering blaze of russet and gold colour.

Thyme Hill Vineyard - In 2000 they produced sufficient Merlot wine to produce their first independent vintage. Thyme Hill Merlot 2000 was a great success and was awarded a BRONZE at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards; one of the first Merlot's to receive an award in Central Otago. A great start that was continued in the year 2001 with a large crop of quality grapes. These were stored over the winter months and in early 2003, Thyme Hill Merlot 2002 was produced. This again has been a huge success with another BRONZE medal at the Air New Zealand awards. Today, Thyme Hill Merlot 2002 is available for sale across New Zealand wine stores and a selection of high quality restaurants have chosen to serve one of the finest Merlots in New Zealand.

Weston Winery - My winery is located in the hill suburb of Wakari. The production is quite small at around 2-3000 bottles a year. The wine is handcrafted from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay from the Otago vineyards of Bendeemer, Highgate, Cromwell and Roxburgh. A small amount of fruity Black Currant wine is made from the Taieri Plain nearby in dry, sweet and Port styles. All the wine is pure and none filtered and made in young and aged styles. I also run a reserve celler that now 6 year old Chardonnay and Pinot in stock.

William Hill Vineyard - The Shaky Bridge Pinot Noir 2003 has been awarded 4 stars in the Winestate Canterbury, Nelson, Central Otago July/August 2005 issue and Jancis Robinson 18 1/2 points "Very charming" New Zealand Pinot Noirs - mainly 2003's tasting in March this year. Currently available is our Shaky Bridge Pinot Noir 2002, William Hill Reserve Pinot Noir 2002, William Hill Chardonnay 2003, William Hill Gewürztraminer 2004, William Hill Riesling 2004 and William Hill Rosé 2004.
